The 13th Annual Games for Change Festival Is Back

Discover How Serious Games Can Have An Impact on Society at the Games For Change Festival

If you are interested in how serious games can solve problems around the world, you will want to check out a festival designed to highlight the impact games can have across many different industries. Every year the Games for Change Festival showcases cutting edge games that target areas of concern in healthcare, environmental impact, research, human rights, economics, education and many other major issues.

This year, the Games for Change Festival will take place June 23rd and 24th at the New School’s Parson’s School of Design in New York.  The festival will specifically highlight finalists in a game design challenge that asked participants to prototype games that help people solve climate change concerns locally, regionally and globally. A winning game prototype will result in a $10,000 prize being awarded to its designers.

People attending the conference can choose between three tracks, one focuses on education, another on health and a third on social and civic impact. If you can not attend the conference, many of the main sessions will be shared through a live stream, so you can see first-hand the impact that serious games are already having. You will also learn about the potential of games to continue to optimize the systems of the world.

If incorporating a game into your industry still feels like a new concept, you might be surprised to learn that this year will be the 13th year that the Games For Change Festival has been promoting games for this very reason. Games that promise positive impact are becoming more effective and entertaining every year, and the festival now has a difficult task deciding which games to showcase, since there are so many powerful games solving real world problems.
